11 Tips for Increasing Cone Crusher Capacity

cone crusher

As the price of sand and gravel aggregates has been rising in recent years, the market demand for artificial sand is increasing. Cone crusher is a medium and fine crushing equipment for sand production. Many customers have reported that even at full capacity, it cannot meet the ideal production capacity requirements. Here BTMA shares 11 tips for improving the production capacity of cone crushers.

1. Keep the parameters of the tight edge discharge port unchanged.

In order to stabilize the output, quality and production line load of sand and gravel products, the first thing to ensure is that the parameters of the discharge opening on the tight side of the cone crusher remain unchanged, otherwise it will easily lead to an unexpected increase in the particle size of the product, which will affect the entire production line system and final output.

2. Try to keep running “full”

If a cone crusher is “hungry” and sometimes “full” due to factors such as unstable feeding, then its product grain shape and product rate will also fluctuate. The cone crusher with semi-cavity operation is unsatisfactory in terms of gradation and needle shape.

3. Do not feed too little

Giving only a small amount of raw material will not reduce the burden on the cone crusher. On the contrary, too little raw material will not only damage the product output and poor grain shape, but also have an adverse effect on the bearing of the cone crusher.

4. The feeding point needs to be aligned with the center point of the cone crusher feeding port

It is recommended to use a vertical deflector to guide the feed drop point at the center of the cone crusher feed port. Once the falling point is eccentric, one side of the crushing cavity will be full of material and the other side will have no material or less material, which will cause adverse effects such as lower throughput of the crusher, more needle-shaped products, and oversized product particle size.

5. Ensure uniform feeding

When feeding, it is necessary to avoid the situation where large-sized stones are concentrated on one side and small-sized stones are concentrated on the other side, so as to ensure that the stones are mixed evenly.

6. Minimize the retention of the buffer silo and improve the efficiency of the production line

The cone crushing buffer silo is the “enemy of output”, and this equipment and other related equipment also need to be carefully arranged.

7. Accurately grasp the three design upper limits of the cone crusher

The cone crusher has three design upper limits: the upper limit of the throughput (capacity), the upper limit of the power, and the upper limit of the crushing force.

8. Ensure that the crusher operates within the design upper limit.

If the operation of the cone crusher exceeds the upper limit of the crushing force (jumping of the adjustment ring) or exceeds the rated power, you can: Slightly increase the parameters of the discharge port on the tight side and try to ensure “full chamber” operation, or reduce the feed rate, but this may be difficult to guarantee Excellent grain shape.

9. Monitor and try to ensure the proper speed of the crusher

If proper drive belt tension is not maintained, incorrect or neglected drive maintenance, the belt will slip and the crusher speed will drop during operation. The stone throughput of the crusher with reduced speed decreases sharply, and at the same time, the power consumption increases sharply, and the unit energy consumption increases, which increases operating costs.

10. Control the fine material content in the feed

Fine material in the feed: among the stones entering the crusher, the particle size is equal to or smaller than that set at the discharge port on the tight side. According to experience, for the second-stage cone crusher, the fine material content in the feed should not exceed 25%; for the third-stage cone crusher, the fine material content in the feed should not exceed 10%.

11. The feeding height should not be too high

For small and medium-sized cone crushers, the maximum suitable height for materials falling from the feeding equipment to the feeding port is about 0.9 meters. If the feeding height is too high, the stone will easily “rush” into the crushing cavity at high speed, causing impact load on the crusher, and the crushing force or power will exceed the design upper limit.
