When a jaw crusher stops discharging material, production efficiency drops sharply and equipment may be damaged if the issue is not addressed quickly. Below are the common causes and practical solutions.
1. Material Blockage
Cause: Oversized rocks or excessive moisture can cause stones to jam the crushing chamber.
Solution:
- Stop the machine immediately.
- Remove the jammed material with proper tools, never by hand during operation.
- Adjust the feeding size or pre-screen wet materials to avoid future blockages.
2. Discharge Opening Too Small
Cause: The discharge gap is set smaller than required, restricting output.
Solution:
- Loosen the tension spring and adjust the wedge or shim to enlarge the discharge opening.
- Follow the manufacturer’s recommended gap settings.
3. Worn or Damaged Jaw Plates
Cause: Severe wear or breakage reduces crushing efficiency, leading to poor discharge.
Solution:
- Inspect jaw plates regularly.
- Replace them in pairs when wear exceeds the limit to maintain balance.
4. Belt or Motor Issues
Cause: Slipping belts, weak motor power, or electrical faults can slow down the crusher.
Solution:
- Check and tighten belts.
- Test the motor and electrical system; repair or replace faulty components.
5. Improper Feeding Method
Cause: Irregular or excessive feeding can overload the chamber.
Solution:
- Use a vibrating feeder for even material flow.
- Avoid sudden large loads.
To prevent “no discharge” problems, perform regular inspections, maintain proper feed size, keep the discharge gap within specification, and replace worn parts promptly. Consistent maintenance and correct operation ensure stable output and longer service life of the jaw crusher.
